Coach Hopkins begins his 30th season coaching at Mater Dei. John attended Pius X High School in Downey, CA where he was a four-sport letterman. John attended Washington State University on a football scholarship and was the Cougars’ starting quarterback and Team Captain. John and current Mater Dei Defensive Coordinator, Eric Johnson, were teammates at WSU. John graduated with honors from WSU earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications. For the past 40 years, John has been in the Shopping Center Development business. John and his wife Stephanie, have three adult children; Matthew (MD class of 2001), Shannon (MD class of 2002), and Thomas (MD class of 2005); and six lovable grandchildren.
